What difference does a V make?

In Adam-9A4QV's weather sat antenna v-dipole tutorial, he suggests bending the dipole to 120°. The question is often asked, what difference does the bend make? Here's a few plots from Matlab's antenna designer:

The bend helps match the antenna to a 50ohms receiver, resulting in more signal power being delivered to the SDR.

(I used a slightly shorter element length, as calculated by SDRangel's Antenna tools, to account for the end effect.)
