Diamond D3000N

Post by srcejon »

I recently installed a Diamond D3000N Super Discone Antenna on my roof.

It's specified as being usable for 25-3000MHz for receive and 50-1200MHz for transmit (200Watts at 144MHz), with a gain of 2dBi, so seemed like a good choice for general SDR usage.

Here's what I measured for S11 using a E5061B VNA, from 20MHz to 3GHz (S11 of -10dB is around a VSWR of 2):

And zoomed in at 28MHz:

Seems to work quite well. So well in fact, the need for filtering becomes more apparent!

Not much good for satellites though, so far, presumably because the radiation pattern has a null vertically upwards, as can be seen in this Matlab Antenna Designer plot (which isn't for the exact antenna, just an approximation)
